Many previous studies showed that the participants who intended to suppress a target thought about the target more frequently than the participants who did not (paradoxical effect). Although many studies repeatedly showed the paradoxical effect with between-subject design, relatively small number of studies investigated this effect with within-subject design. Thus, the present study aimed to examine the effect of thought suppression on the learning motivation by using within-subject design. In the experiment, thirty-two participants conducted two report tasks, namely participants conducted report tasks with or without thought suppression.
